Mode42 — Guidelines and Principles
This page states how Mode42 works. It is not marketing copy and not legal advice.
1. Keep it simple
We keep systems simple on purpose. Solutions must be secure, stable, and performant.
2. Legality first
Lawful conduct and development have equal weight. We develop when the rules are clear. If something is unproven or unlawful, we do not do it. Comfort never overrides legality. International products stay under global legal requirements; regional disadvantages that follow from legality are accepted.
3. Own work
We study external material where that is lawful and useful. Product code for our closed layers is our own. We do not grab random foreign code into the product. Open-source components that we keep as open source stay as they are; that does not open the closed solution to foreign guest systems.
4. Who may run what
On the Mode42 solution, the intended operating systems are OS/42 and OpenSource/Distributions. Running or authorizing other OS or software on that closed solution is reserved to Mode42 and its contract partners, as expressed in license and EULA intent for OS/42, MARCHX, and VARCH.
5. Priority order
- Legality and development (equal).
- Comfort — only under (1).
- Custom own firmware/software for foreign hardware or software contexts — only under (1) and (2), and never as a foreign OS product.
- Agreements between Mode42 and its operators — they apply the above; they do not override legality.
Not legal advice. Binding product intent for Mode42.
